Water-saving is essential yet one of the most taken for granted actions. Most of us disregard its importance since we have an ample supply of potable water.

Water is becoming a serious problem. It has been predicted that the Philippines will face a high-level of water shortage problem by 2040.

As cliché as it goes, we can help conserve water even in our simple ways. Serenis has a rainwater catchment feature where rainwater is stored in barrels, placed at the back portion of the house.

Here are some ways on how you can reuse rainwater:

Cleaning your car

Car washing using a hose consumes about 200 L of water. Imagine the amount of money you can save from water bills, simply by using rainwater.

You might ask, is rainwater clean and safe to use? You have the option to filter or even boil the stored water before using it.

Watering the plants and lawn

Plants need water for food production, or photosynthesis. Storing rainwater for plants is ideal, especially here in the Philippines where water supply may be scarce in some areas during summer. Rainwater is also useful when you want to water your lawn during the dry season. Watering your lawn during summer helps ease down humidity and prevents the soil from getting too dry.

If you are worried of scooping rainwater from the barrel manually, you can always improvise and attach sprinklers from the barrel. Nevertheless, manual labor is a labor of love for your plants and is a good form of exercise, isn’t it?

Flushing toilets

A Filipino household consumes 240 liters of water in toilet flushing, or an estimated one-fifth of its daily consumption. Imagine saving about 240 liters of water in a day, cool isn’t it?

Washing clothes

It is best to filter rainwater when used in washing clothes since there might be fragments included like wood chips. Rainwater is safe enough in washing clothes and doesn’t affect its quality.

TIP: Avoid using washing machine when washing small amounts of clothes. When using a washing machine, you can save water and electricity when washing in full load.

The good thing about Serenis’ rainwater catchment feature is that it is expandable, so you can attach more barrels according to your liking.  Storing water might seem a simple act, but it is a big thing.  So start saving water and experience “Beyond Green Tropical Living” here at Serenis.
