No matter where you are, you always want to pursue your goals and dreams. Making big steps like moving to the city, working in your dream job and experiencing new things on your own make you bigger and better versions of yourselves. Wherever success takes you, somewhere in that journey, you always want to go back to those that matter most to you, your family.

They say family is where the heart is. It does not only mean your biological family. Those who pushed us to become a better person, your best friend, your mentor, or a close relative, can also become your family.

They’re there when you need them.

When things get down or exciting and you just can’t help but need someone to listen or support you, they’ll be there. They’d give time to comfort you after a bad breakup or hang out with you to celebrate that promotion you got from work. They’re the kind of people who’d want to see you shine and grow into a better individual. They have proven themselves as family that can lean on.

They are our go-to buddies.

When you feel like trying out a new restaurant that opened nearby or vent out your frustrations that happened for the day, you can immediately go to them because they’ll gladly lend their time to listen or try new things with you. You run to them because they give you the feeling of belongingness. They are the people who understand you and accept the kind of person you are. You’re comfortable around them and vice versa. You call each other with weird names, have the same sense of humor, or simply share the same preferences.

They’ll tell you the truth no matter how it hurts.

Usually, when you’re down, you tell them how you feel because you know they give you comforting words to make you feel better. But it’s not always the case. They can also be as blunt and harsh. They will tell you the truth because they want what’s best for you. They’ll make you see things in a different perspective and help you weigh things. Why? Simply because they care for you so much.

They make each day an unforgettable one.

Most of your unforgettable memories are the moments you spend together with your colleagues or your best buddies. Those moments can just be a simple joy ride, eating a cup of ice cream together, or just making each other laugh so hard that tears start rolling down your face. It’s the quality time you spend with each other that make the day an unforgettable one.

You’re too comfortable with them that they do weird things with you.

Being too comfortable with someone can take away any pretentions. You do weird things that can become normal between the both of you. You start teasing each other without getting offended because you understand the humor behind it. You dance in public together and just laugh about it afterwards. You wouldn’t feel left out because they like doing the things you do.  You just can’t wait to know what else they’d want to do with you.

Lastly, you treat each other like family.

The bond that you’ve created with your sisters from another mister or brothers from another mother is undeniably the best feeling you can have when you’re away from home. The relationship established can’t be compared and is irreplaceable no matter how many people you’ve met in your life. They’re the special kind of family that you never thought you’d have.

Keep them close.
