March is National Fire Prevention Month. But as they say, “prevention is better than cure” and ensuring your family’s safety will always remain as the top priority not just on March. So how do you ensure fire safety at home?

Whether you live in a condominium unit or a 2-storey house, it is important to have these three fire safety measures at home, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP):

  1. Smoke Alarmfire

Smoke alarms signals you when the fire is still in a controllable state. In this way, everyone still has time to evacuate from the house.

 

  1. Fire Extinguisher

You might belittle the importance of having a fire extinguisher at home, but keep in mind that not all kinds of fires can be extinguished by water. Fires are classified into types, as shown below:

  1. Emergency Exit Plan

In case fire escalates, it is also important to keep calm and remember to stick to the emergency exit plan. It is important for everyone to familiarize the emergency exit plan. It is also important for kids to understand the nature of having one. It is recommended to have two ways in getting out of a room.
