A curious mind wanders endlessly, especially that of a child. And childhood memories are one of the best— the first adventures of our lifetime. Nonetheless, these adventures still require safety, especially at home.
Here are some useful child safety tips that everyone can benefit from knowing.

In the kitchen

1. Sharp kitchen tools

Kitchen knives are sharp, and that is a fact. It is important to keep them away from children at all cost. Although unintentional, we may never know what kids may do with sharp objects.

2. Fire and burns

Cooking in the kitchen is normal; playing with fire is not. It is normal for kids to be curious about fire, but best to keep them away from it to avoid skin burns or worse, your house catching fire. So never leave a stove top or hot oven unattended.

Living Room

1. Appliances and stability

Kids are in play for almost all day. It is important to secure everything in place from glass vases and decors to sharp furniture corners. Even your couch, no matter how fluffy or comfy, may cause harm if it is not secured in place.

2. Electrical connections

Ensure that all of the electrical wires do not overlap with each other. Unplug devices when not in use to conserve energy and overheating. This is not only applicable in the living room, but in every corner of the house.

Bathroom

1. Avoid the slimy floors

For kids, it may be hard to determine the difference between bath times and play time. It is not surprising for accidents to happen such as losing your footing on a wet floor. Hence, it is important to keep the floor dry and avoid spillage of slippery toiletries such as shampoos and lotions. You opt to use slip proof mats inside the bathrooms as well.

2. Never leave kids alone near water

Marie Willsey suggests never to leave children unattended near water. Even a single phone call is not an excuse for leaving them. Willsey suggests wrapping the child with towel and bringing them with you in answering a phone call or the door bell. Drowning is an accident that can happen in just a few seconds.

In a nutshell, the best thing to do is to let the kids understand the things that they are doing. We can always tell kids that being too naughty will have consequences, but letting them understand is another thing.
